Furl combines key elements of popular social and personal saving, sharing, discovery, and bookmarking features into this LookSmart online service. Private or public bookmarks can made from a browser toolbar install or with bookmarketlet links.
Furl provides social transparency into the bookmarks saved by registered users including recommendations for links, topics, and popularity based on other service users. Furlmates are users with other similar interests which allows you to also discover new links and information. In addition to the standard links, users can tag and sort into topics into categories (multiple category selections allowed) with link clippings and comments.
The daily popular items and most recent items are presented on the users home page and you can subscribe to headlines from other Furl members. For your own syndication, an rss feed is generated for your public saved items as well as the ability to syndicate based on a specific topic. Javascript is provided to publish your own RSS feeds on your blog or web page.
The service is also unique as it also saves a personal cached version of the saved page which means that if the web pages changes or is not available, you'll still have a copy to access from your Furl account.
The service allows links or topics to be filed as private which makes this an excellent personal information manager for private bookmarks and clippings too.
