Flickr was one of the original cornerstone platforms of the social media and web 2.0 evolution. Today it’s easy to get lost on the this site with such brilliant photos and interesting character represented by the site participants.

Flickr widgets traditionally adorned the innovative blogs as web 2.0 expanded, and was a key requirement for bloggers due to the lack of photo hosting available from the majority of initial blog platforms.
The site has matured and now is host to a thriving groups of creative professionals and those that aspire for some sense of photographic capability.
There are several award winning (oh yes there are many Flickr community awards) photo sets and images. Take “do you like??” for example. In addition to the overall photograph comments, notes can be inserted by users for highlighted regions of the images for commentary or other observation.
Photo sets can also be viewed as a slideshow giving the visitor a great full page view of the picture set.

Many of the most talented photographers have Flickr Pro accounts which enables them to avoid limits on uploads and now provides the ability to load video. The video is presented in a higher quality presentation format than other social video sharing sites.

Flickr groups allow users to participate in collections and interests categories and it’s always nice to see the social dynamic of a community with a positive and friendly social culture.
One of my favorite ways to view interesting photos is to use Flickr’s “Interestingness” section, calendar and last 7 days.

Many social content promotion sites such as Mixx and Digg often have a single content item classifications for interesting photos and many of these posts link to a Flickr hosted image.
With a Page Rank of 9 / 10 and thousands of photos uploaded every minute, you’ll want to take a look at this site if you aren’t already a regular visitor or user.
