Social Media Direction - Fork in the Road by ReadWriteWeb
May 29th, 2008So just how will the social sites generate revenue, create unique social participant value, and support a viral and competitive advantage of the next social site that does it just a little better.
In my own opinion I think divergence and social niche specialization will be critical. The cross platform tools are already present and will ultimately tie or hub social site centric to a brand or user.
What’s your social perspective?

Flickr - Photo Management and Sharing
May 24th, 2008Flickr was one of the original cornerstone platforms of the social media and web 2.0 evolution. Today it’s easy to get lost on the this site with such brilliant photos and interesting character represented by the site participants.

Flickr widgets traditionally adorned the innovative blogs as web 2.0 expanded, and was a key requirement for bloggers due to the lack of photo hosting available from the majority of initial blog platforms.
The site has matured and now is host to a thriving groups of creative professionals and those that aspire for some sense of photographic capability.
Social Media Club Friend Feed
May 24th, 2008I agree that comment promotion capabilities and the concept of live social interactions with content are exactely what this whole social media cookie is all about.

Enterprise Social Media
May 24th, 2008When you get right down to it, social media can also help the collaboration and networking process among business groups. Business Week’s recent article about IBM shows that some large companies are looking to create corporate social media offerings for their employees.
Sure, we are very used to the social structures that have developed in open communities online centered on consumer interests. Corporate collaboration systems can also benefit from a side channel of professional discussions on strategies and ideas.

IBM has been encouraging social networking among its employees with in-house versions of Web 2.0 hits such as Facebook and Twitter
Good for IBM and other companies that are taking some steps toward understanding social media systems. However, it might be a little odd to have the boss and subordinate relationship in a social structure. Perhaps work groups should be focused on a group facilitator and then equal stature members without the traditional hierarchy. I’d still expect some guidelines for enterprise social media as you would not expect the combative criticisms you find in the public and anonymous identity circles. Read the rest of this entry »

May 21st, 2008Blinklist is an interesting and simple social bookmarking tool. It’s integrated with the Google toolbar so you’ve probably already got a ready blinklist button awaiting your signup. I used Blink list on my prior computer and enjoyed the ease of blinking sites. I could also keep a private blinklist.

Google Friend Connect - Social Media Tool
May 13th, 2008Without requiring coding experience, Google Friend Connect gives site owners a way to attract and engage more people by giving visitors a way to connect with friends on their websites.
- Drive traffic: people who discover interesting sites can bring their friends with them, and can opt-in to publish their activities on those sites back into their social network, attracting even more visitors.
- Increase engagement: access to friends and OpenSocial applications provides more interesting content and richer social experiences.
- Less work: any site can have social components without hiring a programming team or becoming a social network.
We expect new development and to get your first orientation, catch the preview video below.
This story is starting to gain more attention in the news as writers discuss the implications with other social media website owners. Read the rest of this entry »
